The SMK3 standard is built around five core elements: K3 Policy; K3 Planning (hazard identification and risk assessment); Implementation (SOPs, training programmes, emergency response, and PPE management); Monitoring and evaluation; and Management review. Certification is awarded following an external audit by a government-appointed audit institution (Lembaga Audit). Certificates are valid for three years, with required surveillance audits during the certification cycle.
